3000 gsk. ye haaaa.

I just installed my 3000 gsk in the 95 Dodge and is it cool.
Now I need more air. Between 2500 and 3000 rpm the egt is now hitting 1400 deg. It never would get that high before. ( Stock air cleaner and the exhaust is 3 1/2" with cat. con., but no muffler. )
The "sickness" is getting deeper.
One question.
With time for an engeine oil change. The oil in the governor housing was black, is it supplied oil from the engine crankcase? If not, how do I drain it and fill to the correct level and is synthetic motor oil correct for refill. I have only a Chilton manual and can't find any info in there. The only thing Chilton seems to be good for is the wiring diagrams!
Thanks
Ray

The injection pump has engine oil pumping through it, so when you change the engine oil, it will be taken care of.

Advance your timing and your EGT's will go back down a lot.

The GSK really makes them more fun!

Oil change

Thanks for the tip on the oil supply.
I've still got a lot to learn, but this site is the best for that!
Today the truck wouldn't start when i was runnig errands and I found the problem right away from things I learned here. ( The piston of the fuel shutoff solonoid had come apart and fallen out ) I found all the parts and put it back together. It may have to be replaced soon with a cable control.
Low budget!

It takes awhile for the pump to drain all the oil out of it, my cummins dealer told me it takes prob 1-2 hours before all of the oil is drained out. He said if you just drop the oil after shutting down, it will not drain all of it and when you install the new oil, it will be black right away.

I let mine drain over night and fill it up in the morning and the oil stays clean looking alot longer this way

That is true. The pump drains out the front into the timing case. It will actually never drain ALL the oil out, but it will get more out draining it over night.

"its supposed to be around 1 qt of oil in the injection pump."

That's right. I always fill it back up after a hot oil change to the safe mark to allow for the qt in the pump.
It still looks way cleaner than the non- Cummins diesels I've owned.
On the previous engines, it would be black after driving around 1 day.

Thought of this post today when I did my annual oil change.
Surprised my reply didn't generate some guestions
Drain the pan, drop the filter, and open the drain plug on the injection pump to get that last quart of oil.

A hot change or extended drain does not get all the oil held in the injection pump due to the angle of mounting.

The drain plug on the pump I use is the cam lock cover.

Make sure this plug is tight after you do this. You lose a lot of oil very quickly when that plug falls out. Found that out the hard way last summer after I completed my conversion on my 24v. About $90 for the plug, pin and sealing washer.

There will still be oil in the pump no matter how long you let it sit.
