1986 Case 855D crawler loader, hmm 12v 6bt...

you know I never bothered to look insde one of my crawler loaders, until something went bad on her

and noticed it looked quite a bit like a 12v cummins... and you know what, it was one

hmmm then i checked up and read about the dang thing,

its 86hp, would this baby have a easy way to up the power on? same as the trucks? same pump etc?

im just wondering how much torque its putting out, could it be the same cam etc as our original 12v trucks, i remember reading the trucks had a commercial rated cam. im guessing its 86 hp, and hell of alot of torque. sure digs basements easy enough

------
oh btw 5,067 hours on it, only thing that went bad on the machine was the dang transcooler, (all 80 pounds of steel) and the radiator (another 140) was close behind.

the engine still starts up on the first crank.

thanks for the info guys

I'm sure you could turn it up just like any 12 valve.
Problem is the hp is matched to the hydraulic system, you would most likely create more problems than improvements with the newfound power.

We just sold a 1987 Case 855D with the 12v in it. Rated at 90hp, had a rotary pump in it. Ran great. Never saw either too.

they have different pumps on them. it may be a inline pump but the governors are different. There are ways to tweak them pumps too.

Case and Cummins worked together on the desighning of the B Cummins. I believe 1983 was the first year Case started using the B Cummins.

yea case and cummins must have worked together great, but the radiators were made to go

worked out that the things fell apart anyways, i did a full cleaning on the whole engine bay, and repainted it, looks like the things brand new

I work at a power plant and there use to be a 780 case backhoe there that had a b cummins, 6 cylinder- turbo charged, 24 volts system. It was 3 speeds and air bakes. It was a darn good machine. The fluid coupling in the converter was poor or it seemed that way to me. It got replaced by a 580? case which is a good machine also. Just not as big. There is a fork lift there called LuLL ( spelling?) at work and it has a turbo charged 4 cylinder cummins. The crane is a 6 cylinder cummins also. It was bought new last year. Just about every piece of equiment has a cummins of some size in it from the diesel fire pump, to the stand by generator. Not all, like the trash pumps or welders. It is hard to beat a cummins and for small engine the honda is a fine engine, trash pumps, portable generators , ect
As a side note at one time we had a cat back hoe and it was very fast. It may just be me but the cat back hoe seemed to have a lot better converter in it as . I just like the case better overall. Jim
