12 valve fuel pressure issues
12 valve fuel pressure issues
I bought a 97 ram a few month ago and I noticed it had low power issues right away. The truck has 400 000 kms on it. I have around 13 pounds pressure at idle and 21 pounds at 2000 rpm. It also only makes about 8 or 10 pounds of boost. I'm sure the boost issue is related to fuel pressure. I've replaced the overflow valve and changed the filters. I've also inspected all the lines and they appear to be in good condition. I'm leaning towards replacing the lift pump. Am I on the right track? Are in tank filters usually a problem in these trucks? Thanks in advance!!!
Yes I cleaned the pre filter screen and changed the main filter as well. Both were absolutely filthy and full of slime. I also forgot to mention I think my wastegate actuator is cracked. I'm not sure if this would effect boost or not??
Since you have a fuel pressure gauge, find the rubber return line from the P7100 back to the tank, get yourself a smooth jaw set of pliers, and while it is running, have someone watch the gauge while you pinch off the return flow. If it doesn't pop right up to about 60 PSI or so, then lift pump, if it does, then your overflow valve is likely still the issue. I haven't heard of it being a problem for awhile, but there used to be some overflows with suspect lineage,,,,,,,
