Boy I tell ya....I have been running this place for over 3 years now, I own half the site and yet the only reason this happened is all due to Jack...as I must not have had anything to do with it
Thats OK..I don't spend all these hours for the kudo's anyway, my reward comes knowing that my effort has kept this place online and still FREE for everyone to enjoy
Good Job Jack! Sorry I couldn't have helped you out a little along the way
Thanks to our Great members! you can't find a better bunch of people ANYWHERE on the Internet
PS: Just funning with ya John P And thanks to all you Admins for helping me keep the place nice for the members, your dedication is what keeps us growing so strong!

Hey thank you Lary..... And Jack...... because we all know what happens when Jack goes away for a few minutes.... the server crashes......
Hey does this mean that we all need to donate a dollar or two or ten so yall can get some more new servers to deal with the ever increasing number of members?

hehehe. Nah, it doesn't go down much. It goes down more while I'm here then when I'm gone.
In actuality, that is true because I bring it down to do hard backups etc. We are in the need of about 2 more servers for redundancy purposes. We're at a point where two servers isn't enough, and we're looking to expand to about 4 to 5 servers to handle everything. Right now, we're not overloaded but it's more of a reliability thing. If I have two mirrored servers, I can work on one while the other takes the traffic load, etc. Unfortunately, I am not here during the week at all until June 21 or so.

Are you running Raid 0 or Raid 1?
Did you upgrade to a Raid system, or purchase/acquire it like that?
Sounds like you're intending on striped and mirrored drives for the servers...

I like both sites- each has its ups and downs. I generally stick with 1st Gen stuff, so I cant speak for the rest of the DTR, but it seems like the theme here is more performance and going fast, while the TDR leans more toward longevity, the KISS principle, and cheap effective upgrades. The TDR also has a quarterly magazine, and there are several members who get the magazine that arent registered on the site.
I take what I read on both sites with a grain of salt and draw my own conclusions. In my opinion, being biased against one site or the other is like being racist- it limits your options and horizons. the more sides you can hear, the better informed you will be.
Thanks to the guys (and gals, if applicable) on both sites that keep them up and going. In many cases, I am more informed than my girlfriend's boss, who runs a booming automotive shop in Cape Girardeau (they are builing an 8 bay shop to replace the 3 bay shop they are in now), and has all the latest information on all the new vehicles- all because of info from here and the TDR.
The $35 a year averages out to less than $3 a month- most spend more than that on beer or soda.

To add a little to what Lary has already posted, here are some "numbers for you to chew on" that came from information Jack Thorpe posted back on 03-02-07. I am sure these numbers have gone UP in the last twenty (20) days as that has been the trend here on DTR.
2.2 million daily hits on DTR
840,000 Daily Page Views (About 35,000 per hour)
34,925 Unique Daily Visitors
38,857 Search Engine Visitors
