Resurfacing my Flywheel?
I am about to install a SBC DD here pretty soon. The truck has about 80k on it and I didnt know if I will need to have the flywheel resurfaced or not. I have slipped the clutch some, but not much. Also, any idea what it runs for this procedure? Thanks!

My flywheel still had the original machining marks at 16K when the OFE went in. Peter says to get it resurfaced, so it was ground before reinstallation.
It's essential to find a machine shop that knows what they are doing since the flywheel must be indexed off the crank mounting flange surface.

It's also ESSENTIAL that the resurfacing be done on a flywheel machine, not a lathe. The machining marks must run radially from the hub, whereas a lathe will leave machining marks that are concentric. Concentric is not proper.
I wish I had taken pics of my 'wheel when it was done. It was beautiful!

for drivaeability I'd stay away from the DD, but that's just my opinion, I bought one having never driven a truck with a DD & I was unpleasantly surprised, I had the 3600LB 12-button South Bend, & definatly wish I'd talked with peter about what I wanted before buying that thing, I talked for awhile with him after the fact & found some very useful info that would probably have kept me from buying a DD, I've driven & pulled/backed trailers with a couple trucks that had the FE & I just like the pedal pressure & the lack of the noise/chatter alot better, I ended up swapping my DD back to Peter for a single disk & it's alot friendlier on the knee as well as probably the tranny, those DD's pack alot of weight to be sligning around & I've heard they're alot harder on synchros????? I know my tranny shifted perfect before the DD & in a few weeks after the install 2nd gear started to grind a little & got to the point where it was nearly impossible to get in w/out grinding, & with a single disk back in it grinds from time to time if you catch the rpm' just right, but for the most part it's ok, I'd seriously consider talking to Peter & he'll help ya decide what ya need, Dusty
