launching a 5 speed
Okay so Racing last weekend spent all weekend trying to get good launches. The most consitant lanches I had were dumping the clutch at 1300 rpm in first in 4by of course. Does anyone have a better way to launch?

you should be able to launch in second without any problems. i usually take RPM's up to 16-1800. it will save you a little time since you dont have to make the 1-2 shift. you should have a good DD clutch if you are gonna try boosted launches, well if you want the clutch to last any length of time.

Here is how I had sucess launching a turbo car. Left foot on the clutch (given). Have your right foot on the right side of the brake pedal allowing the right side of your right foot to apply pressure to the throttle. Manage the throttle, brake and clutch to build rpm, boost and load. You need a load to spool a turbo, not just rpms. Once you get the green light roll your right foot to the right to let completely off the brake and center-up your foot on the first shift. Good luck!

I tryed launching in 2nd with lots of rpms but my 60 times were better when i started in first. I've tryed boosted launches on the street but i don't think i could be consistant or have my clutch last long. maybe I'll have to get a duble disc. racing seasons over for this year but theres all winter to build the truck up. I did figure out that it helps to never let off the throttle durring shifts. lol works great for bustin out rubber when your in 2 wd.

To launch in 2nd gear, you need to rev the motor up to redline and let out the clutch in a one second interval. Don't just side step the clutch as it will either bog the motor and get under the turbo or just bark the tires so hard you get front wheel hop and you bunny rabbit down the track.
I've pulled 1.86-1.88 60' times just leaving in second gear and rolling past the 60' mark as I was scrambling to find 3rd gear.
I also tried 3900 rpm once and side stepped the clutch and a few feet off the line it popped out of second gear. Scary to say the least and I thought for sure something broke. I then learned how to leave at 33-3500 rpm and let out over an interval of 1 second. Much smoother take off and much more consistent.
BTW, on my truck, free rev to 3500 rpm is 5-7psi boost. 3900 rpm is around 10-12 psi, wicked and violent are the two words that come to mind when you leave the line with boost and rpm! A lot more break-neck acceleration than my buddies 500 hp auto truck leaving at 20psi and running similar 60' times.

I never side step the clutch I useually just snap it as fast as i can. So are you able to get good reaction times big blue? I was in the .700s most of the weekend, then I started to laucnh earlyer and i got a .530. A .500 is perfect. I'd like to be able to get in the .500 consistantly.
