couple of turbo questions

i have a 98 24v, rather than make a boost elbow, or a j hook, why cant i just turn the end thats threaded on a few rounds til i get the boost i want?

Are you talking about the threaded rod on the waste gate? What part of ga you in?

I think he's talking about the boost elbow?

Is this threaded end going into the compresser housing? The front side of the turbo?
With a rubber hose hose clamped onto it, and connecting to the waste actuator at the other end of the hose with a small hose clamp?

Couldnt you just shorten that rod about a quarter of an inch to keep the waste gate from opening so soon? I know my cousin has a 7.3 powerchoke and he shortened the rod on his and he gained about two pounds every quarter inch. But I mean I know fords are different but that rod looks the same.

Your just up the road then I live in dahlonega, but I'v been thinking about shortening mine, I dont think I have heard of anyone doing it on a dodge before. So I dont no if it wld help or not, I would think it would though. I have to get some more boost because my buddy has a 90 cummins and we tinkered on it a good bit and he has to buy a new boost guage because he can peg it and it reads up to 30 psi, thats about where I want to be.

Yes that would work to a limit. The stock spring in the actuator and the travel needed to fully open the wastegate are the constraints. I don't think you could get the 35 psi set point just by adjusting the actuator rod. I think it only has about 3-4 psi adjustability which wouldn't get you much over 28-30 psi.

im down here in toccoa myself man. What about a CT engine turbo? would they be any better than my hx-35?

Stock turbo is good for a steady 300 hp.. What are you aiming for? Towing or Race?

Lil dog is right. With the stock actuator you would'nt ba able to get a huge dif with it, But it would work a bit.
Industrial did that with my actuator on my hybrid, just cut it shorter a bit so it could screw in a bit farther.

On the other hand, you can get an adjustible boost elbow on ebay foe like 20 bucks. I have one of those on my hybrid as well. That way I can just use an allen wrench right up front and adjust from anywhere to stock opening point (30 lbs on mine cause the cut actuator rod) up to 40 + in 30 seconds with just a 1/4 turn!
After two runs at the track I had mine dialed down to opening at 39-40 lbs and still have half the screw left if I really wanted to get crazy (dont wanna).

Or just grab a set of vise grips and clamp off the line going to the wastegate. lol i do it and push 40 psi when i had the hx35 on, just don't count on the turbo being reliable at that pressure

Or, better than the vice grips, remove the stock elbow and put in a 1/8" NPT plug.

You will also need a boost fooler or a fueling box, as without one it will set a code and defuel.
Don't expect more performance without adding fuel.
