Is there any reason not to run a boost elbow on a stock 12valve? I got one from a buddy for free but am afraid of overboosting and causing problems.
Sorry if this is redudant, but my search function is giving me "fatal error" everytime.

The boost elbow is to reduce overspooling. Well kind of. If your running with the wastegate blocked you could be over spooling your turbo. If your wastegate is strill connected you're probably underspooling. The boost elbow allows for more boost than stock but less than a blocked waste gate.
Mine's blocked and I can flog it and get 35-38 psi. I need to install the elbow and reconnect the gate but I just haven't done so.....YET!!

Thanks guys, will I notice any more "seat of the pants" feel on boost? I dont have guages on the truck, but it seems that if I a producing more boost it should pull a bit more before defuel. Right?

With a stock fueled truck the bleed elbow isnt going to really do anything for you. It just bleeds some of the pressure going to the wastegate actuator delaying the opening of it. Stock fueling there wont be too much extra boost to bleed off. It wont hurt to run it, just wont do too much for you.

Get some gauges and bump your fuel plate forward or regrind it.
I can guarantee you'll feel it in the seat of the pants.
Don't make any fuel changes without at least an egt gauge.
