62/65/13ss or 64/65/13ss
I can not decide what turbo would be the best for me. I have narrowed it down between the HTT 62/65/13ss or the 64/65/13ss. My truck is just a daily driver that i do tow with from time. I talked to HTT and the guy told me that to run the 64 I would need an intercooler because the stock intercooler wont flow the cfm that the 64 will make, i am willing to do this but i also want a turbo that will spool quick and dont know how much slower one will spool than the other. Any info or suggestions will be apperciated.

The factory intercooler has handled almost unreal chargers and power numbers. I wouldnt be to concerned there. It may not be as efficent as an upgraded intercooler but the idea of an intercooler is to reduce IAT's , increase efficency and lower boost pressure accross the board. Why are you considering the 65 turbine wheel? The 71 offers much lower drive pressures.
Also if your in a crunch for cash I would drop the SS housings. I'm not sure that it makes enough of a diffrence .

I had the 62/13ss HTB2. I loved that turbo. Spooled relatively quick and made great power. At that time I had jammers3's hot juice w/ smarty and a SHO VP-44. Previously I had tried the 64/14 htb2 and could not spool it. Every truck is different though. You may be able to spool the 64, you are probably closer to sea level in TX so you the 64 might work great.

The man from HTT said that the 71 is more of a drag racing sled pulling turbo, and would not be good for towing. He said the 71 would be hot at cruzing speed and keep things in check at wot the 65 runs cooler at cruzing speeds.

Well form some experience....... i would go with the 62/71/13ss... the 65 wheels choke up and basically suck! i wish i still had my 71 wheel... but HTT told me wrong, so im telling you right. Cause even if you want more fuel in the future you can always upgrade to the 64 or 66 compressor wheel and housing... or do twins, which would do very well with the 62/71/13ss turbo. JMO

Do yourself a favor and call Engineered Diesel 616.608.2977 Talk to Chris.
Do the 62/68/13ss or 14 cast iron. I have ran a 62/65/14,64/71/14,64/74/14 and now the 62/68/14. The 62/68/14 is by far the BEST turbo I have ran. I tow a 12k camper all over the USA.
This turbo spools like a 62/65 but has the same topend as the 64/71.
They have cut their own compressor wheel after do a ton of reasearch on the off the shelf Borg Warner 62 wheel. Their "super62" wheel flows the same air as a 64 wheel but spools like a 62. I also had them put their race cover on it also, which flows a ton more air.
Now, as far as the 68mm turbine wheel. I have been told by a bunch of diesel gurus that this wheel will support the same amount of flow due to the extra blades and contour of the blades.
One other thing, Engineered is ALOT cheaper than HTT or I.I..

I apperciate yall guys giving me this imformation. I still dont know what i should get but after talking to yall i already have a completely different outlook on things. I just want the best for what I do. I do tow but not all the time but even so i want a turbo that will work well when I do tow. I also want something that will spool relatively quick, perform well on the street and keep egt's in check. I know twins is the best way to go but i am a college student and dont have that kinda cash to play with so i will just have to go with a single right now. I am definately going to look into the engineered diesel turbos, and if i understand right they make a SS housing too like Htt? Also do they polish the housings like HTT if you want them too?

I've heard about the 63/68 chargers, not sure if it's the same one dieselman was talking about or not. Haven't heard much good or bad about them but it may be something worth looking into.
If you ever plan to increase your power north of 450hp in the future the 65 turbine wheel is not a good option unless you're going to make a twin setup.
