Gen 1 problems. Need help. Need truck to go to work.

Hello. I am a new member but have been lurking for over a year.

I have a 1990 1 Ton 4x4. It has approx 240,000 on it.

This morning I tried to start the truck. It got very cold here last night (-17).

I did not get to plug it in. I was out of town.

Truck fired and ran very rough. Lots of black smoke coming out of exhaust. I was concerned due to it slowly quiting. I shut it down after about 10 seconds.

Plugged it in. Then it would not start again. At all. not even fire.

I had it towed to my heated shop and let it sit for 3 hours with the shop at 80 degrees.

Changed the fuel filter.

Now it will not fire. Spin but no fire.

We replaced the fuel pressure switch on the pump last winter. Could it be bad again??

Could the lift pump be shot due to the severly cold weather??

I have a low pressure puralator electric pump. Can I hook that up to flow through the lift pump.

Just wan't to say thanks in advance.

Jeremy

Check that the wire connection on the fuel solenoid is nice and tight.

Are you running white PowerService or something to keep the wax from solidifying in the diesel?
