Trans fitting

The front drive shaft came out and hit the front transmission line and broke the brass fitting that screws into the transmission and oil cooler line screws into
Does the fitting hold anything in place inside the transmission or can I simply take it out and replace it

You need to give the members the year, make, and model of your Dodge CTD Pickup.

You can just take it out it is a pipe thread. Try easy out should work to remove it. You are lucky that's all that broke. I have truck in shop now with $15,000 worth damage to it because front driveshaft came out.
