So the Aluminum grille holes matched the holes in the top of the IC style support?

If so, that's encouraging.

The Banks IC goes to the outside of the condenser, so if I can get it to clear, it would really clean up the look.

No, but they are only #10 screws so, in my opinion its not a big deal to drill a few holes for the top of the grill.

I don't know if your headlights will line up with the aluminum grill, they didn't in the 92 core support as you can see. I would be surprised if it is a direct bolt in piece.

Work continues at a snails pace. I decided to finish the front end this weekend. Specifically getting the filler plate installed with the turn signals. I had to cut the tabs off the donor core support and fit them on this one.

I acquired a NOS Mack shut down cable and fabbed up a mount under the dash.

This is the business end. The cable has enough friction to allow it to be left in the "shut down" position. I had the truck running for a few mins today from the tank with no leaks or other issues. About time!

I got ambitious and installed the hood. And learned the bird bath hood will not install without modification to clear the IC radiator.

I could use the IC hood, but then I would have to use the 91.5 cowl, and change the wiper stems and on top of that I would lose the awesome birdbath hood with the crusty red lacquer paint that matches the rest of the cab. So I decided to clearance the 1st inner rib of the 74 hood. It fits like a glove!

I was dismayed by the amount of rust between the panels on the hood. But overall its better than most for the rust belt. I wonder how new sheet metal is treated, if it is? Will cars built today still be around in 42 years like this W200? Or will they be a corroded pile of rust and rotten electronics?

Nice work getting that intercooled core support to work with the '70 grille and hood.

I have little faith that todays cars will last much more than 8 - 10 years around here in the rust belt.

Thanks Oliver! My next battle is mating the 91.5 hood latch to the 74 hood. HOPEFULLY this is the last body fab work and the rest is nuts and bolts. Except for the bumpers, and then its just lots of welding.

I used an 89 core support on my 73. Literally cut out a 12" wide (approximately) section from the 73 core support, and the same on the 89....just lined it up and welded it in. Pretty easy to do. There might be a picture in my thread.

I thought about that. But the problem would be the external hood release on the '74 would not clear the aftercooler in the '91.5 core support.

First I located the IC hood latch an inch left, and I tacked the bolts in it, just in case it fails in the future, I can access the nuts thru the grill.

Then i busted out the Snap-On air hammer and adjusted the sheet metal next to the hood catch. I also fabbed up a crude hood release out of 0.0125" rod that is accessible thru the grill.
