Radio swap in a 2012

OKAY so I have a 2500 with a basic radio I would like to up grade it and add the U connect with it. Can I take a radio out of a Longhorn or a Laramie and will it plug and play to install it?
Any other reprogramming needed?

Ken.

Yes you can, but you will need the 4 digit pin to unlock the radio to your truck. There are a few companies online that can get you the pin for a minimal fee or you will need to go to the dealer.

I put a 2012 mygig in my 2010 along with the mygig lockpick adapter. Works great!

Chrysler calls their touchscreen radios MyGIG. The radio you would want, if you want navigation, is the RHR 730N MyGIG radio. If you don't want nav, you will want the RBZ 430.

The lockpick adapter from www.coastaletech.com is a device that expands the capabilities of the MyGIG radios that allows multiple camera inputs, video in motion, navigation input in motion, multiple monitors for rear seat video, among many other features. Their latest device called MyGIG Air (for 2009-2012 RAMs) allows wireless streaming from Android or Apple products (below ios9).

You have to buy either an aftermarket or the Mopar tailgate cam if you want to have a backup camera. However, I'm not certain if you can hook up an aftermarket camera without something such as the Lockpick adapter.

As for bed vs. bumper cam, unless Mopar made bed cams for the 2010-2012 trucks, then you would have to find an aftermarket company that makes a bed cam. If you get the lockpick, you can have up to 4 or 5 cameras used for positions such as: front, rear, left turn or right turn or whatever else you decide to use them for.

You might consider looking into an after market dvd receiver. That's what I did I did not get the one with navigation but I can add it to my unit. I added my own backup camera right into the factory spot AND I put it on my own switch so I can use it when I want, not just backing up. Like when i have a trailer load of stuff to keep an eye on and when I'm hooking up my boat trailer.

I ordered an install kit with it and it looks great and I have a bigger screen. For navigation I wouldn't watch it anyway. I can connect my phone with bluetooth and when it's time to turn the radio or movie will turn down and the lady on the phone will tell me thru the system when to turn. Mine is a Kenwood.

It allowed me to add a sub too and now I have way better tunes than any factory radio will ever have.
