Fifth wheel hitch

Need to install a fifth wheel hitch in my truck, this will be my first fifth wheel. I am looking at the curt Q20 with rails and custom brackets. Trailer weighs 15500 but thought I would go with 20,000 lb rating just to be safe. I can find the curt hitch, rails, custom brackets and wiring harness to get 7 pin plug in box for $1207.00 shipped to my door, I am in Canada and that was a Canadian dealer.

Any opinions on curt hitches? Does that seem like a good deal for Canada?

You might want to check out DSP hitches, it's Canada's last hitch manufacturer and located in Edmonton. I used their 5ver hitches for over 20 years and really liked them. I only switched to the B&W goose turnover ball with my 2011 truck as I thought DSP had gone out of business too. It turns out they are winding things down but still operating and have really good prices selling only factory direct but they do ship, I was at the factory last summer to buy a 5ver hitch for my daughter and SIL, their hitches slide into rails mounted fore and aft in the bed which I like better than across the bed like most others.

You can probably get a B&W for about the same money. In my opinion B&W is a better hitch.

With the B and W you can get the Curt adapter then set the hitch on that and when you remove it, you have nothing left in the bed. Absolutely a fantastic invention. You can set whatever hitch you want on top of it. They're generally all std.

While I do like my B&W turnover ball and companion 5ver hitch the price was expensive and that was when the dollar was at par, it's now 25-30% more plus shipping on top as most US dealers don't have free shipping to Canada. I suggested DSP because they are winding down and prices start at $425CD, the factory is about 5-6 hours from SK and I've used their hitches for many years, they are a snap to remove and install unlike any other 5ver hitch on the market, the rails run fore and aft giving clear bed space between them and the ability to manually slide the trailer if needed, they are also not as high as any of the other rails out there. You can also undo the 4 pins, take the weight of the trailer and ease out from under with the hitch still attached to the trailer, when you come back lower the hitch onto the rear of the bed then slide it into the rails, 4 pins and you are ready to hook up. The bottom of the hitch being smooth makes it easy to slide and store.

Thank you for all the replies, I thought I was close to deciding but now I have more good choices to choose from.

Busboy I have reached out to DSP in Edmonton.

Just thought I would let you know I installed the curt Q20. Basically came down to price. Install kit was great and straight forward. Did not do it in the 1-1/2 hours like instructions said but it is in.

would that Anderson hitch by chance be on a short bed? If so how’s clearances and what degree can you turn with it?

I ended up getting one in the fall of 2017. It is being used on my mega cab short bed. I get nearly 90 degrees turn with it, but that is also because of the way the front cap is built.

Try e-trailer .com in the states, also look at the max. hitch weight for your rig. 20 k in case you want to upgrade in the future.
