Powerloss under load

Its been a while since I posted here but I need some feedback. I have a 2011 Cab Chassis weighing in just over 12k loaded. The truck has 19000 miles on it and has the manual transmission. If i'm climbing a grade in 5th or 6th gear and give it steady throttle the truck will stumble. I thought at first is was my clutch slipping but it doesn't feel like that. If I throw it down in 4th and rev up to 2500 - 3000 rpm it goes like crazy with no hint of misfire or hesitation. About 3000 miles ago it posted a code (before I experienced the misfire) of a turbo sensor but it went out and never came back on. I have changed the fuel filter again just incase I had water or blockage. Driving the truck around town or easy its hardly noticeable.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Vinnie

Thanks Dave,

I thought about regen and have experienced it before but this seems to happen every time I drive the truck now. Could it be that its just dealing with a full canister? I would think if its not performing as expected it would post a code of some sort so i dont know...

My truck is an auto and it will shutter like the converter is trying to lock up. It will do it when I tow a 6k trailer up a slight grade and my insight gauge display says the truck in now in regen , it shutters until I manually downshift then away we go. No codes. When it was under warranty they were " unable to duplicate" today my truck flat fell on its face no power no throttle response , on a hill towing 8k . I came to a stop the truck came to an idle then it sounded like the exhaust brake disengaged and I was off and going.

Time for a good desoot with that many miles.

The vehicle will require emissions maintenance at a set interval. To help remind you when this maintenance is due, the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) will display “Perform Service”. When the “Perform Service” message is displayed on the EVIC it is necessary to have the emissions maintenance performed. Emissions maintenance may include replacing the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) filter element, cleaning of the EGR Cooler, cleaning of the EGR Valve, and/or cleaning of the turbocharger. The procedure for clearing and resetting the "Perform Service" indicator message is located in the appropriate Service Information.

@ Dogdave, You may right. I thought I would get a display message if Regen was happening but @I haven't ever seen anything in the display.. always say 0 messages. Today I drove it all over an it ran great with no hint of hesitation.

@BigIron70, The truck only has 19k on it.. do you mean that with low miles it soots up more? Most of it has been during towing or freeway miles.

Do you have more info, what RPM are you running when its happening? Whats the gearing on your rear end? deleted truck? any tuner? etc.

Hi Yan,

The truck is stock, no deletes or tuner as I am in California and its already gone through inspection once. Its equipped with a 3.73 rear axle and a manual 6 speed transmission. When it occurs there is no message in EVIC, usually a slight or moderate grade, 5th or 6th gear between 55 and 65 miles per hour. The RPM can be anywhere between 1600 and 2300 when I feel it stumbling.

Regards Vinnie

For some reason the manual trucks are worse than the autos especially if you idle the truck lots, my sons 2011 manual had around the same miles you have when we deleted it and it was almost plugged solid. Try taking out the air temp/pressure sensor from the intake horn it's on the back side and a single screw, a quick inspection will tell you if it's full of carbon, my sons was so bad we had to replace it, my 2011 auto was still cleanable at I think was less than 5000 miles.
