Air Filter Stuff on 2016 6.7

Hey everyone,

I just changed the Air Filter in my 16 Ram 3500 with a Fleet Guard Filter.
It had 14,300 miles on it. Never saw any indication from the Computer that it needed changing nor was there the old style vac pull down thing on the air box. I've run a K&N on my previous 3 Dodges with more than 780,000 miles without any problems. This time I'm staying with the OEM for awhile.

After pulling it out and looking at it, it did not appear to need changing.

Questions;

1. How often do you guys change the AF?

2. What the devil is the mechanical flipper in the bottom of the air box ?
It controls the opening in the bottom of the box to the AF, I think?
Emissions Related ?

Thanks

Dave

It's just an old habit, but my road vehicles get a new filter once a year whether they need it or not. I usually average about 10-12k/year and we are in a pretty dusty climate, and I can't say I've ever really thought it *needed* to be changed when I pull them out. My Jeeps, however, are a completely different story. They are inspected regularly and changed accordingly, sometimes 3-4/year.

I made a visit to the dealer about other things that just did not feel right with the brakes, Tranny (R6) shifting, hesitation when starting from a stop.

To Stay on topic here, the door in the bottom of the air box, I was told, is for quicker warm up which allows recirculated exhaust to enter the system. (EGR) I guess.

Still not not happy with brakes. More later.
