17" rims on a 2016 Ram

They probably don't carry as much weight as the 18inch do. My sons 2013 came with 17's and he put 18's on so with it being the same axle and brake I see no other reason.

To be honest if I could use a 16 inch rim and tire on my 2011 I would in an instant. A 16 inch truck tire is far more readily available than a 17 or 18 inch truck tire and cost quite a bit less, plus there is a use for the 16 inch tire after it's done on your truck... you can install it on a trailer. Smaller tire chains and you can run them on the front too, yeh give me a 16 inch any day.

I was just looking to to save a couple bucks. dont want to have to buy new aftermarket rims if I can use the ones I have. I put them on and ran them for a couple hundred miles with on issues and put then factory rims back on. They looked pretty good not to silly. I thought the duallies were running 17's.

These trucks are getting so tall, the newer ones are becoming a real problem for some 5th wheel owners. I don't need and wouldn't want anything larger than the 17's that are on my 2011.

Just a plain ole guy
For sure. With my 12 I had to lift my 5'er 4 inches. That was a chore. A 2 1/2 level kit on the front kept me from having to lift it 5 inches which would have caused a need for an odd size metal combination for the 5'er lift and would have made the tires look goofy in the trailer wheel wells. The level kit dropped my tailgate 1 inch.

The 17's enabled Dodge to engineer way better brakes due in part to the enhanced clearance.
Double piston front calipers sure would have helped on those too.

I used to have a 2001 2500 5spd 4X4 with drums on the rear, I don't remember the brakes being that bad but I believe they were on the older trucks. My son just inherited his grandpa's 2001 dually sport and it has discs on the rear.

In 2001.5 they went with rear discs. Another improvement.
Empty my '98.5 had decent braking until I went with 285's and an 1800# camper on it's back.

I need to put some good steer tires on the front for towing the trailer I have.
Those stock Mexican tires that wonder all over the place when towing.
I'm looking for some 16" Rims that look like the what's on there. If I can find some, I'm going to install some Michelin XPS tires up front. That's a straight tread highway tire. Last ones I had on my 96 Dodge Cummins went 99,000 miles.
They only come in 16" 3040 lbs@80 PSI
