Power Steer Box
Is there a way to take the slack out of an OEM steering box?
I know there is an adjuster of some sort on the top of the box but don't know if there is a means to make adjustments.
At 135k miles, I've just changed all the front end components (ball joints, tie rod ends, drag bars, wheel bearings, universals, etc) due to wear and think I probably ruined the steering box when I tried to use it to "press" out the wheel bearing.
I didn't notice any slack in the steering prior and have a lot of slack now, maybe 1.25 to 1.5 inch of free movement in the steering wheel before movement of the wheels.

jack up and let the axle hang. back the nut off slighty on top of box and tighten like a 1/16". tighten everything down and make sure you don't tighten the screw down while doing the nut.
I'd probably check the steering shaft leading to the gear box. my stock one was sloppy. replaced with borgeson unit and 1/16" turn did wonders. I wanted more and upgraded to the 08 pump box and borgeson. THIS made a big difference.
