Ignition switch/blower motor

Is there a fix for the hvac blower not working other than replacing the ignition switch? I bought a new one from NAPA last winter and replaced it about a month ago with one from Oreilly's. It seems that it's going out again because I have to adjust the tilt on the steering column to get the fan to blow.

On the early 3rd gens fan motor gets + from ignition switch, and the fan speed **** completes the - circuit either directly (on high) or through the resistor block.

There were threads about fan issues traced to charred wires under the steering column or charred ignition switches, so that may very well be the problem. Not sure if some motors get stiff and pull unusually high current, or what the root of the issue is.

Later trucks supply fan + via TIPM.

That could be a good idea. I would still pull the column cover and inspect the switch and wiring, and repair as required.

Jeff is right, if you adjust the steering wheel and it will sometimes work, it like U answered your own question, check the wiring. There are many posts about other problems that relate to broken wiring. Good luck,;;;;

The only problem that I find is a smoked ignition switch. Similar to the way the headlight switch in my first gen used to get smoked. Too much load on the switch. I fixed that with relays and never had a problem afterward.

If it were me I'd consider near the fan, but you could tuck it anywhere I would think.
