When i went to buy air filter and oil filter for one of our trucks yesterday i told the guy it was an 06 3500 cummins 5.9l

he said is it 4WD or 2WD....

It's the way their books are set up. Like txarrowhunter said... they need to know if it's a 4wd for a filter

So as they scroll through their screens it asks if it's HD or not. If it's a 2500 or 3500 it's an HD.

I think 06 and up all have HD emblems, it's on the badge in chrome and red on the doors.

My truck seemed much less capable after I de-badged it.

But the tool box in my garage is now HEAVY DUTY Ram Tuff.

my 05 Says Heavy Duty on the left of the tail gate.. 05 yr are uniquie because they dont ahve the crome dodge on the tail gate like the 03-04. thats how i always tell them. 06 are uniquie because they have the big head lights but earlier style big long Ram2500 badges. then they 07 and up have the new badges and tail lights... not sure how to tell from there. also not sure how to tell a 03 from an 04 at 1st glance.
im not sure ive ever noticed a 3rd gen25/3500 that didnt say HD on them.
the 1500 mega seemd pointles to me, its pretty much a 2500.
the frame on my truck has a sticker that says 3500 cc sb, or something like that, not sure what would be different on it other than the overload spring mounts.
would my rear end be the same wieght as a 2500.

Simply put, the 2500 Cummins is heavier duty than the 1500 gasser. That's it. A heavier duty model with a Cummins and bigger axles. If you order a 2500 it says HD on the tailgate.

Mine used to be an HD until I debadged it. Now it just is.

I have an 04 2500 4x4 diesel. California would not allow the hd's to be sold here at the time because of emissions.. The only difference was mine only had 425 torque and the hd's were 600 torque. Of course a tuner box fixed that. And the next year the hd's were allowed in. But that was before the mega cabs.
