First time diesel owner possibly
Don't know a great deal about diesel trucks, but if I was to lean towards a 2008-2007 2500 laramie, and use it primarily for work travel and pulling mowers and boats. The daily commute to work is 52 miles round trip, would it be economically smart to get a diesel and get a basic tune for highway travel and better mpg and light towing vs a gas truck? Maybe a dumb question but I have zero diesel friends and not a whole lot of forums can help unless your already an owner. Thanks!!

Just my opinion here....
If you are good with maintenance and do your own work, diesels generally aren't too bad to keep up with, price wise. Then again I know some people that don't open their own hood, and I could never afford their repair/maintenance bills.
Your commute is about the same as mine, I spend $40-50/week on fuel doing some errands too. About 2 oil changes a year, fuel filter, tires every couple years...my VW Jetta TDI is definitely more economical, but doesnt haul the firewood to heat my home, nor would a 1/2 ton gasser for long. Bottom line is when it comes time to get to work, diesel just makes it seem easier (especially Cummins, but I'm biased). Cruising empty isn't too bad on the wallet either, but if I didn't have something to haul every few weeks or days etc I'm not sure it would be economical. Some of the newer gassers get 20 mpg empty, beats my mega by about 4 mpg.
