Back Up/Reverse Lights Not Working

Back Up/Reverse Lights Not Working
I have a 2004.5 2500 with only 32,000 miles on the clock (forgive me, I have a take home vehicle). I went to have its yearly inspection and when it was finished there was a note saying the reverse lights were out. I've checked the bulbs and fuse panel and all were fine. Any clue as to what is going on? Perhaps the transmission reverse sensor?

If you have a manual tranny, the switch is towards the rear of the tranny, on the passenger side. To test it, remove the wiring harness from the switch, attach a jumper wire between the two lugs (not on the switch), turn the key on and put it in reverse. If the back-up lights come on, the switch is bad. They are very easy to replace. Just remove the old switch, replace with new one and plug in the wire harness, and things should be back to working right.
I just did this with my truck.

My next step would be to check the bulbs themselves, and check the connection in the socket. I know, it sounds impossible that both bulbs would go out at the same time, but believe it or not, both of the low beams on my wifes car went out at the same time. Had to replace both of them.

Well...New bulbs installed today, still not working. I put a test light on the pigtail for the switch and I get current. When I jump the two backup lights still don't come on. I am going to see if there is a fuse somewhere between the cab and bed.

here is a site where you can look up the electrical schematic on your truck. It takes a but of clicking but the answer would be in there. http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/year.pdf

to make things simple, since you have power to te switch, install a jumper wire in the wire connector, completing the circuit back to the light, do they light up (yes ) switch is bad, (no) remove bulb, check for power at/ for wire wt/lg if power, sacket or bulb is bad, also check for good ground at bulb receptacle, black wire. if no power at bulb receptacle, try a fumper wire, from switch to bulb, good luck;;
