Delete Dilemma

My 2007.5 Dodge is bone stock at 105K and I now want to delete the DPF and EGR. I am leaning toward the EFI Live but am open to suggestions. The dilemma is my understanding that all codes must be clear before starting. At present I have a constant CEL and able to key up P 2004 DPF and P 0405 EGR. My truck is smoking badly at times from the engine compartment especially when stopped at lights and etc. Also, it doesn't have as much power as normal and is slow to spool up under load. I have cleaned the EGR two times in the last 60 days but P 0405 persists. I am not getting warnings on the overhead. However, I haven't been able to detect a regen event in several weeks. Any ideas on where to start???

Thanks in advance for any help from the experts.

I can't find a P2004 but there is P2002 dpf efficiency below threshold.
For the P0405 it can be a wiring short, bad egr valve\actuator.

In either case it looks like the egr is stuck open and dumping soot into the exhaust.
It's best to be code free but many have deleted with codes so don't let that delay you. FWIW I wouldn't drive it until it's repaired or deleted.
The smoke from the engine compartment is worrying me. Have you looked for the source? If not then you need to find it as there could be more than one problem.

XCC Rider, you are correct, the code is P 2002. I think you are also correct on the EGR, however, when I cleaned it I could activate the actuator spring and bar with the ignition switch. Not sure if that is a true indicator of function or not. I have not been able to locate the source of the engine compartment smoke, but logic tells me that smoke/p2002 indicates a plugged DPF. I am hoping to not have to replace parts that will be deleted later. Cleaning of the system by the dealer is also very expensive. I am tempted to order the EFI Live kit on Ebay and just "go for it" but I have no idea of the possible ramifications. That is where I could use the expertise of those who have gone before.

Thanks for your help.

The 2002 code could be due to the excessive soot being sent to the dpf.
Look around the engine compartment for signs of oil, fuel or soot.

Deleting is easy and I can post a link on the "how to" if you need it.
Since you've already cleaned the egr twice the best test you can do for the egr is to use your finger to slowly push the egr piston full stroke and back to closed. If you detect any sticking or resistance then the valve is bad and needs replaced.

As far as the ramifications, I see you're in Phoenix and I'm not familiar with the emissions testing rules for your area. If you're in a testing area then you'll have to R&R the emissions crap each time for testing. Then there's the risk of getting cited for the mods. That's something only you can quantify.

For now try and find the source of the smoke, verify the egr valve is closed, leave the actuator unplugged and go for a drive and see if it goes into regen.

I deleted my 09 Cummins with CEL and had no issues. I used a mini maxx. I had same issue as you minus the smoke. Truck runs like a dream now.
