Stocker Vs Stocker what is to be gained?
I know this has been covered but I can't find good info with the search button. How much is there to be gained from putting an 04.5+ turbo on an 03 or 04? We were looking at out stockers sitting on the shelf and the He351 appears quite a bit larger. How would it effect egt's? And are there any real world numbers for a HP gain? How about flow in lbs per of a He351 Vs a He341?(We already know the He351 is 67lbs per min) I know the 03 had a 54mm and the 04.5+ had a 60mm but I just can't translate these into real world gains. What say you guys? I know a few people around here that would like to try it.

I did the swap and Erik from LCD di the swap. Erik saw 50 hourse gain just with that switch. I havn't been back on the dyno since I switched but I can tell you egt's went down 200 and I am seeing about another 8 to 10 psi of boost. Seat of the pants tells me there is at least 50 hourse gain in my truck.

Just need a resistor and a boost fooler and it should bolt right up. I wouldn't normally suggest it because most of the time it would involve buying one, but since you have one it provide a moderate increase in ceiling room. If you have to buy it you might as well get a HTT or II, etc.

I can tell you the stock 03 turbo stinks! The Aurora was a HUGE improvement on mine when everything else but the muffler was stock. No more worrying about crossing busy intersections and no more brick wall at ~2200 rpm. No dyno but I used a stopwatch and did my own tests. The muffler and turbo changes are a must IMO. Those 2 changes dropped my max egt to 1000 and towing really became a pleasure. Then came the Predator and WOWWW! Craig

I know everyone is tired of reading about my turbo swap, but I find it hard to believe that my truck was making more than 420-430 HP with my stock HX35(never dynoed) but the 499.2 HP I laid down with the HE351 is a power level no vp powered truck has hit with the stock HX35.
Over on CompD, a member has dynoed as high as 555HP with the HE351 on his common rail. One other guy is up to 552HP I believe. Now these guys are pushing the turbo in explosion zone, but still that is a ton of HP, don't underestimate the quick spoolin' hard pullin' HE351cw. As soon as the ricer's and mustang guys catch on, the HE's will be harder to come by for less than 400 bucks.

It is a direct swap if you use the cast elbow that came stock on the 03-04 turbo. If you want to use the 04.5+ cast elbow it does not neck down to 3.5 inch, it stays at 4 inch but you will have to use a down pipe for an 04.5 truck. You will have to plug the hole where the electronic wastegate controler is and drill and tap the housing for an adjustable boost elbow.

Direct swap and it works...I did the test on my rig. A little slower to spool as you would expect, but I went from 399 to 450 HP and 950 to 1060 TQ with no other changes to the truck. Joe covered the rest of the mods. There is an article on our website or on norcaldieselforum.com that has pics and what needs to be changed. They are available for around $300, so for an 03-04 they are a nice, cheap upgrade.
