Mine failed at 104,000, while I was on vacation at the lake with the family. But at least it was the last day and I had just put the boat in the water and parked the truck when just about all the coolant ended up pouring out all over the parking lot. Replaced it myself that afternoon in camp, hardest part was putting the new belt on and routing it since my truck doesnt have the routing sticker on it. The factory coolant cost more then the water pump which I found funny.(not so much)

(someone may have mentioned this already)
I believe this depends on the water pump brand that was used.
OEM - replaced after 96k
NAPA - replaced after 20k

I concur with the aftermarket comment. I put 40,000km on my truck with the water pump that was in it when I got it, so who knows how old it was.
A new OEM pump from the dealer was over $600! So I put in a NAPA unit that I got for $80. It lasted about 20,000kms. However I put in another NAPA unit for $80 because I refuse to pay $600 for a water pump!
Next time I'm a Cummins I'll price one out and if its reasonable I buy it so I have one on hand for when the NAPA one goes.

58,000 miles no failure, drips, or anything else. Having mentioned that I purchased a backup from Genos Garage for $40. Flushed once and replaced with Zerex G-05 and distilled water.

Mine started earlier this week a bit of a drip on Tuesday and took it to the shop today, barely making it. Pulled it up on the lift and went yep it the water pump called the store and they had just sold the last one . Pulled off the lift to wait till tomorrow and there she went . It lasted 136,xxx miles with no flush.
