My original pump actually never did fail. I had to replace a cracked radiator and a fan clutch so I thought I'd better go ahead and change it being I was right there. It had well over 500,000 miles on it and was still working fine.

Mine dump fluid from shot bearing at 227,000.
I was was leaving for California and thought a new thermostat and a radiator flush was a good idea before I left. HOAT filled. I made it to Elko NV for a pee break and the truck peed as well. Installed a new pump from cummins shop and a new fan belt from napa with tensioner. Lucky I wasn't in the salt flat desert when this happened.
The rest of the story:
i made it to Watsonville ca and then the new fan belt wound its self around my fan and ate up my wiring. Once again lucky I wasn't in the middle of knowwhere.
Expensive trip!

Mine started weeping at 140K. Replaced it with a genuine Cummins pump. R&R was a breeze.... it took more time to drain (and clean up) and refill the radiator.

04 2500 QC 4WD. Mine just failed at 102,400. Changed it per the DIY thread, and it was a breeze. Well....except the part where I about screwed up the drain petcock on the radiator because I didn't know how it worked.

Mine just started weeping today and I'm at around 280,000 miles. I have not ran any "special" anti freeze in it. Just universal stuff from autozone or wallyworld. I'm not sure how mine could ever last this long...since someone posted it was very important to use "special" dodge approved anti freeze. I usually read the anti-freeze mfgr. specs and if it says it is guarantee'd to be good with all engines then I use it. Except with my yukon I still use the orange stuff religiously. ANYWAY, my question is: I'm going to change my water pump tomorrow, and was going to buy the autozone lifetime guarantee'd one. Is there anything special about one from Geno's or someplace else? Sounds like a 10 minute job if you have an air drive... Other than being able to see how well the mating surfaces are cleaned..I think I'll need a mirror for that..as usual.
OK,
Please chime in on your experience using the Duralast lifetime water pump from Autozone. That's the one I can get in 5 minutes..as opposed to waiting for an order.

Been through 4 AutoZone (lifetime warrantied) water pumps and with the most recent pump replacement, the manager got a bit snippy when he noticed how many water pumps I had returned under warranty. Told him there's clearly a design problem re why these things aren't lasting and suggested he and his district manager do a google search to see 1st hand how common the problem actually is. Also told him if he thought I was taking advantage of the lifetime warranty, he could look up the other (more expensive) lifetime parts I had purchased over the years and clearly see I wasn't taking advantage of the warranty program. Incidentally, I too stopped using the more expensive HOAT coolants when the 1st two pumps failed/began weeping and now go with the least expensive/on-sale "all engine safe" coolant as well. Fortunately, changing out the pump is a cake walk, plus done it enough I could do it in my sleep. The bigger problem/PIA when changing the pump is dealing with an air-locked heater core... if anyone has figured out (or rigged up) a permanent solution that quickly resolves the air-locked heater core issue after a pump replacement or a flush... please let me know!

Just noticed the orange rust color dripping from A/C bracket. Looks like mine has failed too. 70k miles. Truck has only been driven about 1k miles/year for last 6yrs due to moving out of state. Truck sits in storage except when I go back on trips. Getting ready to move back to AZ so I got to get it ready for pulling enclosed trailer for the move back. Got the Gates wp,belt, and hoses. Seems simple enough after reading all the DYI threads.
