Manual High Idle
I would like to have a manual high idle feature in our 2005 3500 6 speed. Is it possible to have it controlled by the cruise control switches (like semi's)? What do I have to do?

Hope this helps.
BTW- I really like having the manual high idle as an option.

Using the search feature it says I have to ground #22 pin on the ecm. Does someone have a picture of where that is? It then says I have to have the dealer enable it. They will do this? What will it cost? (I will call in the morning).

I cant remember exactly, but just to look at the truck w/out warranty the dealers want a 1/2 hour of shop time. I think around $60. When I got my hight idle set, they charged me around $100, because the truck was due for ECM software updates as well.

Why would you want to go to high idle? Mine will go up in rpms when I start it after it has idled at a low rpm for awhile when cold, is that what you guys are talking about. So some of you want to be able to make it go to a higher rpm by manually engaging it? Thanks

Its nice to have in the winter for faster warm up...also an exhaust brake will help warm the truck faster, but I dont have one on my "new" truck yet.

To be honest anytime your truck idles for any period of time raising the idle is a good idea. These trucks don't run very hot at idle and as a result the fuel being sprayed into the cylinders isn't burnt as efficiently and could cause glazing of the cylinder walls.

Thanks and good to know for future reference. When it gets cold around here I plug mine in. I also run my exhaust brake most all the time when cold except when ice or snow is on the road.

IF your truck has an auto it may or may not been enabled. If you have a stick you need to ground pin 22 of the back ecm plug with a Cummins part # 3164262 plug and pigtail (Geno's sells them) or you can pay twice that from Dodge.
The dealer (or someone with a Smarty/H&S has to enable it for you). The dealer will probably try to sell you a clutch cut out kit as well for $200+ it is not needed. If there is any forward or rear motion detected by the truck when your at high idle it will return it to stock..
The high idle feature will prevent cylinder wash down and an early death to your engine. at -40 with the Jake on I can have a comfy cab in about 7-8 minutes. Here is the plug layout, do a search on 5.9 high idle if you have anymore questions..
