2003 Ram 2500 auto transmission issues
Hi. I have an issue going on with my Son's truck and hoping you guys can help us out.
The transmission was shifting funny and we were told he needed a new transmission. The shifts were hard and sometimes when it would suppose to shift it would go up a couple thousand rpms before it would shift into gear.
We had the transmission rebuilt(Overhaul Kit, heavy duty converter, solenoid set, 5 new clutches, 1 piston, 1 band)
The truck is still having the same issues. It also does it while downshifting. We've had it back to the tranny shop multiple times. At 1 point they told us it was something electrical. We had both batteries tested and had them replaced. Just took it back to the shop and they said it had to be something electrical. Their diagnosis was the computer was telling the tranny what to do and the tranny was following what the computer was telling it. But, it was giving the tranny the wrong instructions. Does that make sense?

I had electrical issues followed by a trans re-build. Mine started when the computer went out, apparently the connectors wore out where the harness plugs into the computer. They installed the new computer and it blew up, then they figured out it was the connector. You could wiggle the connector while it was running and the truck would miss, lights, wipers would come on... Dodge sells a wiring harness splice kit that was cheaper than a new harness.
Got this all settled and then the trans started acting up. I assumed it was electrical but it turned out to be the trans wore out at 220K. They charted the pressures and they were about 1/2 of where they should be.
Wish I could be more help, sounds like a tough one to find.
