06 Dodge 3500 5.9 diesel

We are in McCall Idaho. My son's 5.9 Ram is throwing a code p0148. It's a generic fuel delivery code. He has new injectirs, a new pressure relief valve sensor and fuel filter. The lift pump test at 4lbs psi in the shop at idle. If you have any ideas please post. I already know all the possibilities for the p0148 code. The truck falls flat on its face under heavy acceleration, get Temps are running hotter then normal (in the 1500's) and it's blowing black smoke. The fuel pressure at the rail drops to 3.6 according to the bully dog chip reader when he accelerates then jumps back up after it has fallen on its face. Please help. Don't have a ton of money to throw at it and we need to get the truck running so we can get home.

Thanks for all your help.

Not an electric lift pump pro, but 4 psi is a problem at idle as it will only go lower the more you step on the peddle. My suggestion would be for a quick fix get a walbro external not much money and you should see 12 to 15 psi at idle. Permanent fix go mechanical fuel boss or DTT.

Please fill in all specifics on your truck will help all of us help you.

Like do you still have the intank lift pump or already have an external?
