Camshaft and crankshaft gear removal...
Trying to get crank out on 07.5 6.7l, will not come out without removing front cover or gear off crank. Can you take gear off crank or best to leave alone? How do you get the camshaft out with no lifter access covers?? Can you get the camshaft gear off with a 3 jaw puller and heat? And more importantly can you get it back on when the time comes??

Well got the cam gear off with a 3 jaw puller and heat, so that the front cover could be taken off and get the crank out with gear still on it...Will the camshaft withstand the beating that will come with putting the cam gear back on?? Does anybody know?? Would very much appreciate somebodies expertice..Thanks

To get the cam shaft out you will need to remove rocker arms and pushrods. Get yourself some 1/2 dowel and cut into lengths about 5 inches longer then push rods. You will need to remove wiper arms and cowl to gain access to remove rear push rods. There are two body plugs that you remove in lower panel. Thank you so much for the response. But I did not remove the camshaft, I just removed the cam gear and was wondering if the camshaft still being in the block can handle the beating the cam gear back on when the time comes to go back together...

The gear is heat treated and if you heated the gear with torch to a high temperature most likely the gear has been annealed and is no longer hardened. Gear should only be heated to 250 degrees in oven for 45 minutes before installing on camshaft. Wear protective gloves to handle hot gear and be sure the gear is seated against the camshaft shoulder. Hammering gear on without heating in oven first will most likely crack the gear.
