Alright, you got me to look it up in the FSM, since I've never replaced one. Manual says it's in the junction block behind the fuse block at the end of the dash. The illustration shows it as under the same little cover, just forward of where all the fuses are.

Open the drivers door and on the end of the dash is a cover remove the fuse box cover and there should be 2 flashers in that area one is turn signals the other is for the 4 ways....I always use electronic flashers rather then the mechanical flashers

I got curious, so I went out and looked in the '97. Both flashers are under the small "fuse" door on the end of the dash. The flashers are to the rear of the fuse block. I went and looked at the '00. The flasher was in the same place only to the front of the fuse block. The '00 only had 1 flasher and when I tried the 4 ways and the turn signals that flasher worked both. I put my hand on it to feel the "clicks" to make sure.

I may have to go back to parts store I took the small fuse door of and there is a
blue plastic square can that I can feel click when I hit the turn signal but it only
clicked one time so I pulled it out has 4 or 5 prongs, took it to parts store they
told me it was a relay not the flasher and sold me a round can with two prongs.
but I cant find any thing that looks like it on my truck!

thanks.
