Speedometer sticking

Recently my speedometer has been climbing up to about 25-30 mph, and then not going any higher for the rest of the drive. If I pull over, shut the truck off, and then restart, it seems to almost always begin working properly again.

I normally only see it on the first startup of the day, but once it did it again a few hours later.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

on my 99 the speedo is controlled by the pumpkin sensor. When that sensor started to go the ABS and the speedo went wonky.
It's a fairly cheap replacement and REALLY easy to do.

Also look at the "twisted pair" 2 wires going to the sensor, they tend to get thrashed from gravel coming off the wheels and should be protected by plastic wire harness wrap. Look for any damage to unprotected wires close to the sensor.
