Slow stop?

Brakes slow to stop vehicle with small compact tractor behind no brakes on trailer.. No more then 6K, I have to really stand on them to get stopped. I have only owned this truck for a month or two, and only towed something this heavy once. So I did not get to condition the pads, they are new rotors, pads. What would I look for to determine if the power booster is good, I do have some whine from the power steering pump also. Plan to change soon. Any idea if the master cylinders go bad on these things? What is the proper way to condition the pads?

First try manually adjusting the rears, these trucks are notorious for the rear drum self adjusters to not work.

To condition the pads brake fast from 50-60 mph without coming to a complete stop at least three times then drive for a short time to allow the brakes to cool.

A bottle of LubeGard power steering conditioner will get rid of the whine. Most auto parts carry it.

will this conditioning work even though these pads have a couple of months wear on them?

6000 lbs is a pretty heavy trailer to have no brakes, and you will definitely have a much harder time stopping, especially on a 99 that has smaller front brake components than the newer trucks.

Look at upgrading your rear wheel cylinders to the GM 1 ton with singel rear wheels. There is a thread on here about it. I just did it on my 96 3/4 ton and it made a world of differance. A trailer brake wouldn't hurt either.
