Seat Foam

Just called dealer to get price quote on drivers seat cushion foam replacement. With my company discount this piece of foam is pricing out at 245.00 !!
Anyone been there done that? Seems a little steep for a piece of foam.

I remember somebody on here mentioning that you can switch the bottom cushions on the front seats.

There was an article in the TDR about a fix for this. I am not a member, I just remember reading either over there or on here about it. Try a search, or maybe someone who read it will chime in.

Assuming you have the 40/20/40 setup, the foam is the same but the covers have some tabs on them for left and right. You would have to remove the covers and switch them as well. (Which is not a big deal) (Just three hog rings and some clips).

I am going to an upholstery shop this week to get a price on having my driver's seat bottom "re-foamed". For me, switching my seat over to the wife's side would be an even bigger "pain in the butt" if you know what I mean.

Any good uphostery shop will fix you right up, for a lot less than $250.

It's easy to do the foam yourself. Just add about 2 inches on the bottom of existing foam but you must put in a piece to stop the suspension wires from eating into the foam. I used a piece of carpet I got for nothing and I used one of the sleeping mats for camping as the foam. Got it at Wally world. There are several write ups on this at the TDR.

Herb, it made a lot of difference. Much more comfortable and raised my buffalo butt back up to where it was supposed to be.

My problem is where the back of the seat meets the bottom. Mine's been hollowed out and is really uncomfortable. Any suggestions for this?

I did the seat cushion foam upgrade and I now "enjoy" driving my truck again.
I just glued scrap squares of carpet pad together until I got 2" of foam, pulled the 4 bolts that hold the bottom of the seat in and folded back the wire suspension. Put the foam in and then a scrap piece of carpet on top of the foam to keep the wires from digging into it and reconnected the suspension. Bolted the seat back in and presto....a new seat.
Took all of about 40 minutes and $10.00

I would find another shop. A good shop should be able to fix this without a $245.00 piece of foam. Otherwise do like some of the other posters suggest, fix it yourself and save some cash.
