Paint the outside but I definitely agree you should line the inside.
I've got Line-X on my 99 put on by a pro and the entire tub of my 90 Jeep got the herculiner roll on coating that I did myself.
The jeep got much quieter and ZERO maintenance.
The truck I've slid pallets of pavers on, scoops of gravel and mulch dumped straight into it. Shovels scraping against it and 16 yrs later it still looks pretty much the same, just a little faded.

Think I finally found a bed. It's in good shape with only a minor dent where the bumper hit it. That I can fix easy. Just working out the details on the swap. Neither of us are set up or have a good place to do it.

Took a week off work, but work wouldn't leave me alone. Started to repair the dent in the back right corner. Another hour and it would have been perfect. I have a MIG welder and a sand blaster for the wheel wells. Probably won't be able to touch it till next summer when I can do it at home, outside, in the bugs.
