Noisey heater motor

Last week I drove about a 100 miles camping for a week. Two days later I cranked up to go buy a few grocery's the truck was setting in the sun and first thing was to turn the air on HI. The fan or something was very noisey. I put my hand on the motor but had no vibration. On the lower speeds you don't notice it but on recirculate it is really loud. Is the motor going bad or what?

Gotta have that cooling it summer in the south.

Drop the fan out and clean it. You will be surprised by how much crud goes in from the intake grid. Mine had two handfuls of leaves.

^^Second that. Mine had a wad of fir needles in there right on top of the resistor, surprised they didn't burn when it went out.

If by chance the motor is going out. You can purchase one aftermarket. My local dealer wanted some stupid crazy amount for new blower motor upwards of $300. I passed on that and went to Autozone and picked one up for $60. It is not as quiet as the stock one was but it does blow air and has worked fine and lifetime warranty on it as well. Been several years and so far so good.

I thought about the noise might be crud built up. We camp a lot and most of the time it is under trees. I am going to check it this week if I can. If I have to buy a new one I will check out Autozone and Advance. I try not buy anything from the dealer if I can get it anywhere else.

Mine has started squealing softly (is that possible?) and I'll be chasing it down this weekend before a long hot drive to niece's wedding in Dallas, is the motor readily accessible or do I need to pull the dash to get to it?

Thanks, I had forgotten all about it until I saw this thread and have no truck nor resources here at work

On my 01 it was easy to get to. A few bolts on the underside of the fan box and it came right out. Which on my truck is on the pass side underneath the glove box area. Easily accessible from underneath maybe 10 minutes to get it out..

I had to replace my HVAC motor last spring. A bunch of people on here told me to go with a dealer one. I got if from the dealership, it was made by Bosch I seem to remember and it was less than $100. If I had done the job right the first time it would have been a 20 minute job. I had to do it twice because I forgot to grab the foam gasket off the old assembly that seals the motor to the box / housing for the blower. If your truck has it in the same place as mine then the job should be one of the easier ones you will do.
I just remembered that I had to take the plastic panel off that is against the outside fender, right by where your passenger's feet would be. I couldn't get at a couple of the mounting screws until I did that.

Three screws hold it up to the air box. Do the forward screw first, it can be a little tight to get in there. I used a 1/4 inch set with an apex to get it out. The others are easy.

Well I found my problem today. The fan had 3 or 4 small pin oak leaves stuck in it. Sounded like a piece of card board in bicycle spokes. At least I did not have to buy a new motor. Thanks for the help

Me too.
This solved it> http://www.genosgarage.com/CAB-FRESH.../CFF-DG-0610K/

Much better than cleaning out a plugged up heater or A/C core.

I may have to look in that. Sometimes I cover my vents when we are in the campgrounds if I am under a lot of trees especially pine they make a terriable mess. Thanks
