Looking at an '02 4x4 ?s

Hey guys! I looking at an '02 SWB 4x4 QC w/ 54k miles no guages. I looked at the exterior only (dealer was closed) and found it was straight piped. Couldn't tell if anything else was bombed or not.

I plan on going later this week to test drive etc. My questions are:

Should I run?
How can I tell from looking if anything else has been modified?
With the "straight pipe", will the noise be unbearable?
What other questions should I be asking?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't run away immediately. I don't know which wire(s) to tell you to look at to see if it's had a box on it, but if it's straight piped and has gauges it's probably got or had a box in it. I like my straight pipe, some people feel that a straight piped truck is too loud. You'll know when you test drive it if straight piped is for you. You can always put a muffler on if you hate it. I'd see if you can get maintenance records, and if it's a Dodge dealer have 'em run the VIN and see if it's been in for warranty work, or if (God forbid) the warranty on the pump has been voided.

does it have a gooseneck hitch?
elec. brake controller?
holes drilled in knee bolster? possible fuel box location
auto tranny or manual?
velcro or glue residue on drivers side fuse box(under hood)?
oil leaks?
oil residue on turbo vanes?
check for play in the turbo wheel.

when you drive it, make sure you test the 4x4. And crawl underneath and inspect for anything out of the ordinary.

I don't care for straight pipes-particularly drone at hwy speeds, but some love them; personal preference.
-Get VIN # and go to www.carfax.com for history of vehicle, if and when you get interested enough to consider buying. For about $20.00 you get complete history of truck (damage, reissued out of state title, private vs company owned, etc). Money well spent!

-Dealer can also do a scan for things like Total hours of engine run time, # of starts, etc.

-Lastly, you can take VIN# to Parts Dept and ask for "Build Sheet". Gives all accesories and options from factory for good information and as a comparison to what's on the truck now. Should be free.
Good Luck - Love my 02!
