Electrical Problem

2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel

Have searched the forum/internet and found what some said the problem was but no one
has confirmed it to be one of these solutions:

1) Rear diff speed sensor
2) Key Switch

so here is the problem...

Both batteries went dead so I took both out and went and bought 2 new ones
I did not install the new batteries until about a week later. I also
replaced one of the negative cable ends that was bad.

After installing the batteries, the next day I went to leave to go on
an errand and my ABS, airbag lights were on and the speedometer and odometer
did not work as well as the fan control for AC/Heat and the electric windows and door locks
would not work.

While going down the highway I put the trans in neutral and turn the key
off (NOT in lock position) for about 5 seconds and re-start the engine.

Everything went to working. But later that day the same problem came back
but this time the trick I tried above did not work.

I had a "Mechanic" tell me to let the engine run for about 30 mins or so
to let the computer re-program itself. I did this and it fixed it for
about a half a day

I did the key procedure to get the codes and it had:

P PCU = P0500
P ECU = P1693

But really do not know how long those codes have been in there.

I have an ODBII unit and it showed no codes!

Search on the web found that it's the speed sensor on the rear
differential but others say that is not the problem especially with
the window and fan control along with the others mentioned.

Checked all fuses and all are good. But did find the big silver electric window fuse(inside of cab) did not have power on it.

Anyone have ANY idea what this might be? Is it a combo of speed sensor and key switch that happened to go bad together? I really don't want to just start "Parts Changing" if I can help it.

Thanks in advance, I do appreciate any light you might have to shed on my problem

make sure all the small ground wires are on the battery cable you replaced. if they are, make sure none are broke internally. especially the one going to the fender.
