Dash & plastic overhaul.
Just wanted to share a couple pictures of the dash in my 2000 Ram. I took some before, during & after.
This one was repaired at some point & was just starting to get bad. Then I noticed after replacing my cup holder that I had to push the trim bezel up to open it...which means it's starting to flex underneath
So I ripped off ALL the plastic; dash & underneath/bottom.
I had a dash laying around that was good but the wrong color (of course) so I sprayed it with colorbond...which works well...even with no promotor/cleaner.
Also, on the underside of the dash, I used a can of that Flex-seal that fixes leaky gutters, etc. I wanted to make some kind of a membrane just in case this thing decided to crack again; it might not fall in on itself.
& I went with my junkyard find woodgrain dash trim, & cup holder...& my old CD player that's probably as old as the truck & has been in about 8 different vehicles I've owned ... sorry the pics aren't the greatest.

Thanks! It's not too bad of a job...just time consuming. This is the 2nd time I did a total plastic swap - top & underneath (other was my '99 24 valve). Worst part is probably all the phillips screws from the vents to the dash underside back in.

My trim bezel was cracked (on top), but salvage-able...so I tried to GENTLY remove it...ended up knocking a small chunk out in a different place.
I like the LMC dash too...seems to be a good alternative, just not exactly cheap. But if it never cracks again it's worth it.

The dash failure really eats me up. When I moved her from SoCal 23 years ago I was amazed at how clean and perfect vehicle interiors were due to the lack of solar radiation.....and then the dash on my 01 went all roadmap and I realized what a crappy design it was..but h/Dodge dropped the ball on a few things on these trucks and I felt the tortilla chip dash was minor.
I'm just glad replacement parts are available and durable. My rhinoliner guy thinks he can hit my new one with a thin coat of gunk and make it lifetime. I'm cautious...
Go Chawjas!!

He thinks he can thin it out or something....the new dash cover is uv resistant and warranted against failure so I think I'm gonna leave it alone and just paint it and put it in.
