Thumbs up 3rd gen 17 dually wheels on 2nd gen dually

3rd gen 17" dually wheels on 1st 2nd gen dually

'05 dually 17" wheels directly fit '96 Dana dually axles

'96 dually 16" wheels will not fit later dually axle, due to rear disk brake caliper interference

- 8 on 6.5" x 4.771" center bore 5.35" offset '94 thru '07
- outside center face to outside rim wall = 1 13/16" offset, same as '96 16" wheel
- fits 9/16"-18 lugs and nuts perfectly - later editions are metric(?)
- center cap latches fit '96 lug nuts tightly for secure hold

Oem 2.35-80x17" Ameri-trac tires are ~2" taller than 2.15-85x16" '96 oem sizing so should reduce effective final drive ratio - also 2" wider, so up goes wind and rolling resistance - hiway tread would help a bunch over the oem road-and-trail tread, also, if you're trying to maintain the excellent mileage of the 1st 2nd gen trucks (12v)

However, the redesigned front caps and covers are way more aerodynamic than the '96 edition, so should help some at any speed

Next: 19.5's..............

I do know that if in a bind, one can use a dually wheel on the front of a 2500 and install it backwards. It looks really funny but will get you home.

Cool

Do that on the front and rear, lower it, put a f*rt tube on it and you'd fit right in with a certain crowd, eh..............

I did just come in from cleaning, scrubbing and polishing them up for a prospective foto shoot - but, I'll hafta get one of my sons to come over and show me how to use this new-fangled cam-fone, first - I can design\build a monster-motor truck with one-hand tied behind my back, but this new-tech stuff is beyond me - my fingers don't even fit the buttons for dialing - I havta use the one-button call-back feature, which they programmed in so I could call them
