When to repack front wheel bearings Wheel bearing
I am slowly going through every part of my truck because I intend to be doing a lot of hauling with it. I have changed or replaced, the LP, VP4$, Oil, Filters, Coolant, installed gauges, rear end and tranny fluid. At what millage should I repack the front wheel bearings? Is it easy to do? I have done a number for trailers but never a truck.

They have got a non greasable bearing. I forget what its called but when its finished it basically comes apart due to its plastic cage that the bearing rollers ride in.There's a lot written up on them if you do a search.

I cannot speak for the 2wd's, but I think they are similar to a 4 wheel drive...
On 4 wheel drives, since 1994, they have a front unit bearing assembly which is non-rebuildable, non greasable, and not cheap..
They are easy to change though. Remove wheel, brake caliper and rotor. (Remove cotter pin and castle nut from front axle stub shaft on 4wd). Remove four bolts from inside of knuckle and remove unit bearing... Instillation is process in reverse...
And don't forget to unplug and re-plug abs sensor.
On 4wd's, dyna-trac makes an upgrade kit to go back to a tradional, spindle, bearings, manual locking hub design but it is also expensive... around $1850 I think. Although benefits include, maintainability, durability, and slightly increased fuel milage, you can by many unit bearing for that price.
