Truck runs great but keeps getting P0216 & P1693 Codes
I have an 02' with 62,000 miles on it. The truck runs great. Idles smooth. Starts right up on first crank. No issues with low power, but I continue to get P0216 & P1693 error codes together every time the truck is driven. Is this just a sign that the injection pump is getting ready to go out or could it be another problem.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

1693 is the "companion code". This is because we have two computers, the Cummins ECM and the Dodge PCM. 1693 just tells you that the two computers saw the same fault. Doesn't say what fault, just that they both noticed the same thing.
0216 means the injection pump could not achieve full timing for at least 5 seconds. This could be due to a failing injection pump, or that it may not be fed with adequate supply pressure from the lift pump.
I would try to rule out any lift pump/fuel supply issues first before the injection pump.
What are your lift pump pressures? If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, you should install one. Lift pump pressure while the engine is under load is the important reading to get here.

Yes, I do have a fuel pressure gauge. I'm getting good fuel pressure. 20psi at idle. Never drops below 15 when you get on the gas. So, I'm pretty sure that my lift pump doesn't have a problem.
I noticed a few months ago that I got the P2016 code, so I cleared it and it didn't come back for several months. Now, it seems to get the code every time the truck is started.
Thanks,
Mike
