Swapping axles
Hi guys. So one day while driving and lamenting on the miserably low gearing and it occurred to me. My 02 is geared too low, my 01 is geared too high. What about just swapping the axles one to the other and vice verse? The auto benefits from the 4.10's much more and the 6 speed would benefit from the 3.55's. I don't tow very heavy all that often, and I do a ton of city driving from job to job. So with the current gears in the 6 speed, I'm CONSTANTLY shifting. I think the truck would feel faster with the taller gears too. Currently it feels like you just get short little bursts of acceleration that are quickly ended by a gear change. Maybe with 3.55's I could actually get a decent pull out of a gear lower than fifth. haha. This would be massively easier than doing ring and pinion swaps correct? Is there anything I'm missing?

As long as both trucks are EXACTLY the same aside from ones an auto and ones a manual, the swap should be fairly simple as both 3500 DRW trucks will have the Dana 80. Make absolutely sure of that too.....
If they are the same then the only sensor will be the speed sensor with on the ring gear tone ring which disconnects on the top of the pumpkin.
And no, you cant just swap R&P's because the tolerances between the two housings will be different enough to need them to be reset.

Oh yeah I didn't mean reuse r&p. I just meant regearing each axle in it's respective truck. Yeah, they're identical. Thanks for the response.
