Smoke issues
I just bought another dodge cummins 2001 bone stock with 78k blows bad black smoke with no throttle down hill. Any idea what could be wrong?

Could be a number of things.. So just sitting there idling in park it's blowing a lot of black smoke? turbo have any play in the shaft? Blown/ damaged intercooler boots? Is it running rough or normal?

It does not smoke at idle. No major blow by. But When I drive it for a little while it smokes really bad. Seems to run good though and builds boost pretty quick. Checked turbo it has a little tiny bit of shaft play. Boots looked ok. Guy I got it from says he accidentally ran gasoline through it somehow.

I haven't even thought of that ill definitely look into it for sure. Would there be anything else that the gasoline could have ruined on the truck to cause it to smoke.. even if it isn't is the gasoline that caused the problems?

I have no idea if your VP44 (injector pump) is your problem or not but they aren't cheap so that isn't something you want to diagnose by throwing a new pump at the problem. The link below will take you to a page with the best VP44 diagnostic procedures you are going to find.

Good advice from Tallguy67...he's actually 6'-7" tall!!
