Rebuild or sell?

I think something went south in the engine. It's making a horrible knocking, rattling sound in the bottom end of the engine towards the tranny. 1500 rpm or over it sounds and runs good. I don't have very much spare time to check it out and I don't have a spare vehicle either I also don't know who to take it to get checked out. I don't trust the dealers. Any ideas I'm in memphis tn.

I had a similar issue but it wound up being the flex plate. I shredded all the bolt holes. It happened over a few days first only knocking when I would have a trailer on then one day running empty BOOM! Good luck man I hope that's all it is

What he said!

You can check in the little access cover for the converter/flexplate bolts (behind turbo) or the inspection plate on the bottom of the bellhousing, may see something quick and easy. Have someone turn the motor over by the alt. pulley bolt while you are looking.

If that looks ok may want to listen to the block with a stethoscope (there are other methods for this also). Is the noise only under load, only in gear, etc. etc. Hopefully it's not a rod or main going.

The noise starts when it is idling or just past idle 1500 rpm or less.i can hear a slit rattle under hard acceleration. Almost like a detonation ping on a gasser but not as loud. Hopefully I can check it out tomorrow. Thanks

It doesn't matter if its in gear or not. The noise comes in under 1500rpm.
