No Power Brakes or Steering
I have a 2000 3500 Ram Cummins, 6 speed manual. Everything was working fine all of a sudden no power steering or power brakes. Both happened at once but I can not see that they would be related. Checked belt it is OK.
I will be getting under it here shortly to investigate any help at what to look for would help.
Thank you,
David

I know nothing but to start by looking in the power steering unit to see if fluid is circulating while it is running. However, if you do an advanced search in the 1st/2nd gen forum for "Lost power brakes steering" (or variants thereof) you will probably find your answer.
Here are a couple.

Since it went all at once, I am betting the drive coupler between the PS pump and the Vacuum pump took a dump on you, not all that common, but it happens. First thing is to check to see if the PS pump is circulating fluid, it probably isn't though. This is the site to get repair parts from, unless it is just the PS pump drive sheared, then any auto parts store can get you a reman pump.

P.S. The PS/Vacuum pump is not belt driven, it is gear driven directly off the front geartrain.......

Jay,
Pat and Bark are heading you in the right direction. Our trucks get power steering and power brake assist from the Hydroboost, which is gear driven. Before we get too freaked out here, check the fluid level in your Hydroboost, it is in the engine compartment, on the driver side, down low on the block kind of in line with the middle of the driver side battery.

Yes, you will find the PS pump is driven by vacuum pump through a small coupling. They are located somewhat beneath the injection pump. Find resivor cap and look for fluid movement with engine running. I have seen units with bad fluid also. It might be cured by flushing if fluid is brown and foaming.
Sort of unsual for both to go completelly out, so good chance you in market for pump. Use PS fluid, not ATF.I buy a gallon of valvoline blue PS fluid. It good.

Thank you
Thank you all for your help with this, I have replaced the power steering pump and resealed the vacuum pump, changed the fluid. Now I have a whine in the steering, is this caused by air in the lines and if so will it work out? If this is not it what should I look for.

If it is really cold outside it will howl.
Did you use synthetic fluid?
Turning the wheel from lock to lock and checking the fluid may help circulate out an air pocket...
