If you have the luck I have had, I'd start saving and get your tools ready. My first 2 VP44's lasted 100,000 miles each.

I like the "Stanadyne Performance Formula" (Blue Label) Diesel Additive. I have been using it for over ten (10) years with no water issues EVER.

Mixing stuff into the fuel to eliminate water is the wrong way to do it. The water will settle out in the filter housing and should be drained. Gas engines get additives, diesels gets water drained. If you don't get bad fuel all the time, a small amount will consistently pass immersed in the fuel which is fine, but if you have enough to settle in the filter housing it is WAY more than you want going through your injection system. Very very very bad to run water through the IP and injectors no matter what you mix it with.

As to quality injection pumps, there are two issues I am aware of that pertain to quality: First is that non-lead solder has thermal cycle fatigue issues- it cracks causing circuit board connection issues in the VP control.

The other is aluminum actuator piston bore that wear and then get sloppy and sticky. Quality rebuilders sleeve these with steel to prevent that issue.

Well after a long conversation and class on VP44 computers, I ordered a Blue Chip with the reconditioned computer.
Lets hope a Blue Chip with the upgraded computer last longer than what I have had in the past.
