We didnt undo anything and it took about a hour....If you can take off your oil filter, it will make life easier....The new one worked well...only about 3 seconds for the "wait to start" light to go out....But it sure is quiet....Not a peep out of it..My neighbor has a chevy pick-up, and last night hers sounded like she had snakes under the hood....As well as i think we lost about 2 jugs of coolant...

You should be able to feel heat at the inlet hose elbow on the top of the block after about two hours plugged in. Mine doesn't hiss or make any noises when I plug it in.

mine used to sizzle. then about two years ago it quit working. I replaced the cord only. Everything works fine with no sizzle. Go figure, to sizzle or not to sizzle?

if you go onto ebay, there are many types of block heater testers that go on your cord. Just search for "block heater tester". I bought the yellow one at christmas and it works great. it tells me that the outlet has power and the current is actually flowing thru the block heater element.

Check and make sure your extension cord is good too! And make sure its getting power through it I mean. It would suck to do all that and it be a thrown breaker or something. I can hear mine after about 30 seconds.
