Can,t hear,or feel my turbo kick in!
Can,t hear, or feel my turbo kick in!I have checked the bearings for play,tightened and inspected all rubber boots,WD-40 on actuator moving parts and tapped lightly with small hammer.Took out silencer ring.Seems real peppy through the gears but feels more like gas engine responding to higher revving.With filter and ducting removed i can hear a very slight whistle when revving it up.
Does not feel like it used to.

Larry,thats funny,but you can,t argue with 18 psi fuel pressure at the IP.Your just sore cause i didn,t spend 700 bucks to get the same fuel pressure you have.There is no black smoke,well just a little initially cleaning the pipes.Could it have something to do with running a 180 thermostat?

Dennis I didn't need anything but a stock pump on my 12 valve 2nd gen...it operates off the cam and supplies plenty of fuel for my needs.
Don't get hung up on pressure, it is flow that really matters as in GPH that keeps a VP44 alive.
Not being new to this like you are I have dealt with literally hundreds of trucks with fuel pump issues.....the stock in-tank pump has never been the cure for any of those issues but rather the cause in most cases
Your 180 thermostat is counter productive, your engine runs better at a higher temp but I doubt that is the issue. It takes fuel to spin up the turbo, if you do not have a boost leak then perhaps you have an issue with the VP44....

What about Winter fuel issues?
I don't know if you have dealt with this before but this is the time of year they make the winter blend and you will lose mileage and performance running it.
Not uncommon to lose 2 to 3 MPG and a noticeable drop in performance...

It is true i am new to this diesel business,but i must defend my in-tank pump modification,no one has done what i have accomplished with the intank pump.I HAVE BOTH VOLUME AND PRESSURE.In a perfect world we would all have a cam driven fuel pump and a 12 valve.Your right i may very well have a VP issue ,a few years ago i replaced the VP and it had hot starting issues right from the installation.I got someones else,s baked electronic board,that is why i am running the 180 thermostat.I live in a hot climate Sonora dessert Mexico where they are still using good old fashioned diesel oil.I guess i should just get a boost gauge and stop guessing

If you have enough pressure to the VP, it's not a fuel starvation issue. It doesn't take much pressure-- just more than zero. 15 is great, but not demonstrably better than 12 or even 8.
I think you may have an issue with the ECM not commanding more fuel. If your MAP sensor is really dirty or bad, the ECM will never command the fueling that higher boost would allow. Instead, it will follow a zero-boost fueling curve that will make the truck feel gutless.

Thanks Hohn,appreciate the serious reply.Checking the map sensor seems like a good move.I have a boost gauge on order from Genos.The 01 runs great and seems quick enough through the gears,I just can,t hear the turbo like i used too,I,m not ruling out it may be all in my head,in that i,ve become so accustomed to the sound as normal.
