Buy or not to buy

1999 5 speed with 160,000 very clean good maintenance , new lift and ip, brand new tires not sure till I go look if its a 53 block. Kinda worried about it? Asking 6000 comes with 100 gallon fuel tank in bed.

325K plus on mine and still running strong. Here are the issues I have had. Not really issues but can't think of a better word. Warped rotors in about first 20k miles. The auto adjusters in the rear drums don't work. Usually not a big deal to replace rotors but unfortunately the rotors are pressed on with the wheel studs. Only way to get them off is to pull the unit bearing ( can separate the bearing and had to be replaced as not repairable). Only thing I hate about the truck. Solution-upgrade the rear break cylinders with GM part numbers for same axle which are larger and adjust the breaks every oil change. Will get about 70-100k out of a set of rotors or at least I did. My permeate solution was to swap the front axle from 2001 with slide on rotors. Only did that as I knew my unit bearing were toast and got the axle cheaper than unit bearings and labor to replace them. Never had the 5th gear nut back off on this one but it didn't tow heavy all that much and was never turned up. There are solution you can do prevent 5th gear problems if you are going to towing heavy or turning up the power. That 5 speed made it to 259k when 3 gear was no longer usable and wouldn't stay in 1st. $1700 to rebuild, including tear down and put back in. 2 LP (can't remember mileage) and 1 IP at 300K. Cracked exhaust manifold at 320k. Interior has held up better than my 03. Overall rock solid truck for me. I would jump all over that tuck at that price especially with a new IP. If everything else is good on the truck my only immediate advice for that truck would be to get FASS or Air Dog if the LP wasn't modified to the in-tank version. The original factory location was a bad design and cause them to fail regularly and when they do they will shortly smoke you IP. I have the 53 block if that helps ease you mind. No cracks yet. That issue is kind of blown out of proportion. If it isn't cracked by now I would think you would be safe.Hope this helps. If you have any questions just ask.

Hey dieselfreak21 thanks alot man. I have been having nightmares about the 53 block but I have priced new long block and figured I would roll the dice. I love the 1999 and I plan on keeping it for a long time whether I have to repower it or not. Im meeting tomorrow to pick the truck up , has banks exhaust, and intake with a superchip? One owner says he drives it like an old man and was just looking for some fuel economy with the up grades. Has all the maintance records and changes the oil every 5,000. Lucas products in rear end and trans. Feel like I would be missing the boat if I didnt. Theres alot of negative on these forums about the 53 but I have to remind my self of how many people drive these sweet trucks that arent on this forum. I will throw some pictures of it on here once I pick it up. Thanks again.
